Porcelain Crown Ocoee FL

Here at Classic Smiles, we prefer dental crowns as a remedy to various teeth problems because they are a permanent and long-lasting solution. Crowns are fixed prosthetic devices that are used to strengthen chipped, fractured, or decayed teeth. They are also used to cap dental implants. There is a myriad of benefits that you get from crowns.

Apart from strengthening the damaged tooth, crowns will also restore the shape of the tooth and make your jaw look uniform. This does the trick when it comes to restoring the aesthetic appeal of your tooth structure. Some people opt for crowns in order to cover up a discolored tooth as well.

How are Crowns Made?

Before the crown can be made, our dentists have to first prepare the damaged tooth and treat any underlying issues that the tooth might have. In the case of decayed teeth, they’ll have to remove all the decayed material and ensure the tooth is completely disinfected before they can start preparing the crown.

The tooth has to be filed and shaped properly in order to support the crown. It is often shaped like a pin since the crown usually has a female port underneath it that fits over the tooth. After the tooth has been prepared, our dentist will take an impression of it and send it to a lab. A crown is made in the lab, and you’ll be invited for a placement appointment when it's ready.

Crowns can be made of either porcelain, ceramic, gold, or silver. You get to choose which material you want, although our dentist will advise depending on the issues you are suffering from. Porcelain is normally used when you need to match the color or shade of the tooth to the rest of the teeth in your mouth.

A temporary crown is usually fitted on the tooth while you wait for a permanent crown to be made. The main crown is permanently cemented onto the tooth using a special adhesive. You should never try to remove the crown by yourself. If the crown feels misaligned or loose at any point, you should come back to our dentists and get it fixed.

How Long Do Crowns Last?

Crowns are designed to last a lifetime, but they undergo wear and tear depending on how you use your teeth. You need to take good care of your crowns to ensure they last long. You should avoid biting or chewing hard foods as well. Gold and porcelain are the most durable crown materials. They are also the most expensive. Gold is also preferred because of its aesthetic properties. Ceramic and silver are ideal options if you are on a tight budget.

Crowns are among the most demanded dental prosthetics in our clinics. Our prosthodontists are quite experienced and will always deliver the best results.
