What “SuperFoods” Can Boost Your Oral Health? There are a number of superfoods good for oral health. Some of them are whole foods or drinks, such as cranberries, green tea, and cheese. Others are food that one makes at home, such as smoothies. Foods made at home such as smoothies can contain multiple superfoods and can be especially good for oral health as one gets multiple superfoods in one meal. A particularly good smoothie contains yogurt, bananas, blueberries, and peanut butter. Come see us for additional suggestions on superfoods.

Whole Superfoods Good for Oral Health

Cheese is an excellent superfood for oral health. It´s high in calcium, magnesium, and phosphates. It helps remineralize and maintain tooth enamel. Cheese is alkaline, and so it raises the pH in one´s mouth. That reduces the probability of tooth decay. Cheese also promotes saliva production, and saliva itself reduces tooth decay. Cranberries have compounds that reduce tooth decay-causing bacteria in one's mouth. Green tea has a lot of antioxidants, and it also has compounds that reduce not only tooth decay-causing bacteria, but the bacteria causing bad breath.

Smoothie, a Combination Superfood Good for Oral Health

A full smoothie is an excellent superfood because of multiple components. Yogurt provides calcium, phosphates, and magnesium and remineralizes teeth. It also promotes saliva production, which reduces tooth decay. Bananas are a good source of calcium and magnesium. They also contain a number of vitamins. The vitamin D in bananas is good for teeth. Bananas have low acidity, which is important as acid destroys teeth. Blueberries are high in antioxidants which help promote oral health. They lower the number of bacteria in one´s mouth, thus reducing tooth decay. Blueberries are also low in acid. The fats in peanut butter lower the risk of gum disease. While the proteins in peanut butter help build and repair cells. Superfoods are a great way to help maintain dental and other health. Please give us a call for more information.
